Writesonic Review – It Feels Familiar! [2024]

This is a tool that I recently got the chance to use in assisting me in writing a couple of my recent blogs.

Using Writesonic was very interesting for me because it reminded me of Jasper, an AI writing tool that I’m very, very familiar with.

As an adept Jasper user myself, this helped me focus on Writesonic’s features that are essential to writing or creating marketing copy.

What I Like

• The content editor is easy to use. Popping open this tool feels like greeting an old friend; it’s that intuitive. It’s a big win because it means you can jump straight into creating without fussing over how things work.
• Highly customizable brand voice. This feature is like having a chameleon in your toolbox; it adapts to whatever vibe you’re going for. This flexibility is awesome because it lets your brand’s unique personality shine through every word.
• Built-in SEO optimizer. It’s like having a mini SEO guru sitting right there with you as you write. This is a game-changer because it helps make sure your content isn’t just great to read but also gets spotted by Google.

What I Dislike

• Frequent glitches in saving outputs. Sometimes, it feels like your hard work just vanishes into thin air, which can be a real headache. It’s a downer because there’s nothing worse than having to redo work you thought was done and dusted.
• Some features are difficult to navigate. Getting around some parts of this tool can feel like trying to solve a puzzle blindfolded. This is a bit of a bummer because it can slow you down just when you’re getting into the groove of things.

Quick Verdict

Let’s say you’re a freelancer or someone who just wants an AI writing tool that comes with a suite of features.

Writesonic would absolutely be a good choice.

It’s actually more than enough for blogging.

However, since I have experience in using other AI writing tools, I was able to gauge Writesonic, knowing what I want to get and what I don’t want to experience from an AI writing tool.

This helped me quickly spot parts of Writesonic that I don’t like.

For example, the ability to save outputs and documents conveniently.

I experienced a couple of instances wherein after I came out from a chat box or a document, nothing got saved.

It’s nowhere to be found.

So, like I said, Writesonic is a promising tool and is a safe choice for writers who like to keep it simple.

But Writesonic seriously needs to fix the glitches that are affecting how users save outputs.

Who It’s For

While Writesonic can bring automation into your writing, it sometimes drops the ball when saving your work correctly. Imagine finally getting that perfect paragraph down, only to find it’s vanished into thin air because of a glitch. It’s enough to make you want to pull your hair out, right? So, if you’re juggling lots, this hiccup could really throw a wrench in your workflow.

Personal Opinion

Personally, I signed up and tried Writesonic for the sole purpose of finding out the quality of the tool when it comes to producing blogs in series.

Because of this, I got to really hone in on three Writesonic features: AI Document Editor, Brand Voice, and Chat Sonic.

Let’s discuss the three and put aside the stress Writesonic caused me when it didn’t save some of my stuff.

First thing, I love the document editor because it’s simplified.

There are fewer elements to consider on the screen because the majority of the tools that you would use when you’re on Google Docs or Microsoft Word are all compiled in a pop-up bar.

I find that a smooth feature.

Now, the brand voice. This is really important for bloggers who want a distinct tone in their writing.

This feature?

Compared to how I have to set up my brand voice in the other AI writing tools I’ve tried, to be honest, Writesonic got my ideal voice right with the least needed effort on my behalf to tweak things.

The setting was organized and simple, too.

Lastly, Chat Sonic—it’s standard quality.

At times, it was frustrating because of the whole issue with the tool not saving my chats after I come out of them, but during the times it saved properly, you get to see its positive points.

You can change the tone, length, and entire output result even after Writesonic has already generated it for you.

You can also save the output in notes or download the whole thing.

Overall, Writesonic can support you when it comes to blogging or copywriting.

But when the glitch happens with saving documents and outputs, it can be a real headache, too.

Features Breakdown

Writesonic has a lot of features.

It has an AI Article Writer that can instantly produce factually accurate articles.

It also has an SEO Optimizer that’s powered by Surfer but uses a simplified version of Surfer’s UI.

But in this section, I will zoom in on the features that I used the most in creating a number of blogs.

The following features are my most used from Writesonic as a blogger/marketer.

Dashboard

Now, let’s talk about Writesonic’s design as a tool.

The dashboard is pretty easy to navigate.

When you go to the dashboard, all of Writesonic’s features are displayed for you to choose from.

On the left side of the dashboard there are options that can take you to Writesonic’s other features like ‘Brand Voice’ and ‘Templates’—its pretty standard.

It’s the same with how other AI writing tools are designed.

However, I must admit that I did get confused at first as to where my drafts were going.

Unlike other AI writing tools, Writesonic stores your documents at the bottom part of the dashboard.

In some AI writing tools, this can be found on the left side panel together with other essential settings.

AI Document Editor

I used Writesonic mainly to write blogs, so I really got to spend time using its ‘AI Document Editor.’

In terms of design, it’s also very plain and straightforward making it easy to use even for beginners.

What I find different with Writesonic, though, is its lack of a toolbar that you’d usually see at the upper portion of document editors.

Personally, this is fine with me.

Instead of displaying the writing tools you’d normally use in the upper part of your content editor when writing, Writesonic houses them in a pop-up bar.

This pop up is where you go to change the heading sizes, the text structures, hyperlinks, etc.

You just have to right click a text for it to pop up.

If you’re particular about facts, Writesonic can also be valuable because it can easily provide links to sources that verify its AI-generated content.

Now, on to the not-so-good parts.

In some moments, Writesonic will not save your document properly.

There was even a time where I lost a completely good draft; I had to redo the entire thing.

It was frustrating!

I don’t know if this is because, at the time, some features in the beta were affecting the tool, but nevertheless, an AI writing tool shouldn’t have issues with saving outputs.

If you want to avoid having to redo your entire content, err on the side of being sure, and don’t refresh your content editor without having it copied somewhere first.

Brand Voice

We covered the design of the tool, and now let’s talk about the results of how Writesonic’s AI generates its outputs.

In blogging, I write with the goal of making content engaging and relatable in every blog.

It’s a good thing Writesonic comes with a ‘Brand Voice,’ too.

Before I write, I make sure to turn on the voice that I’ve configured.

This voice is casual, engaging, and speaks like its talking straight to the reader.

The customizability of the brand voice is also a feature I really like.

To make sure that Writesonic’s AI can analyze your brand voice effectively, it breaks down the brand voice into different categories and allows you to input any keywords or phrases that can help explain the ideal voice that you want.

How was the brand voice when used?

Writesonic captured the ideal brand voice that I explained above just fine.

The results that used the brand voice are not perfect, of course.

Chatsonic

Chat Sonic is Writesonic’s chatbot.

Some of its chats?

Unlike in the other AI writing tools I’ve tried, wherein every time you open a new chat, it automatically saves the previous one.

With Chat Sonic, however, it didn’t do that in many instances.

It’s the same with the document editor.

But there were also moments where the chats auto-saved properly.

At times when I didn’t stress about the glitching issues, I enjoyed how the outputs from Chat Sonic were very customizable.

Even after the AI gives you the output from your prompt, you can still change the output’s length and tone, or you can completely regenerate it.

In some AI writing tools, you can’t regenerate outputs.

Meaning if you don’t like a result, you’ll have to give the AI your prompt again so that it can generate a different, and hopefully, a better output.

I also love how it has an ‘Improve Prompt’ feature.

Conclusion

So, let’s wrap up this review.

With all that’s said about Writesonic, is it an AI writing tool that I’ll recommend to you and other fellow writers and marketers?

If you’re in the exploring stage, It’s definitely a pick that you can stick with for a while.

But there’s definitely going to be something better out there.

Basically, it’s a good starting point that’s definitely worth trying.

Remember in the intro, I said it resembles another AI writing tool that I’m very familiar with?

I was talking about Jasper, from the content editor and templates down to the brand voice—it resembles so much of Jasper’s design.

Honestly, Jasper is still two steps ahead.

Even without the glitches that I experienced while using it that really caused serious inconveniences I still think it’d fall somewhere behind Jasper.

For what reason?

It’s UI. Writesonic should rethink how its users want to experience ease when using its tool.

I just feel like some of its features could find better spots somewhere on the platform.

Nevertheless, if your goal is to find a simple AI writing tool that can make writing easier for you with the help of an AI chat tool, a built-in SEO optimizer, and a feature that will help you sound exactly like the expert your audience needs—try Writesonic now.
